After two amazing trips with Rodney Fox Shark expeditions, I was reluctant to leave Port Lincoln and can’t wait to return in the future. Both trips departed at 4.30am to make the 5 hour journey to the Neptune Islands off South Australia, and within 5 minutes of arriving, shark spotting and cage diving had begun. Providing an experience like no other, the crew on Princess II cater to everyone including scientists, photographers, dive clubs and any other shark enthusiasts. They have created a great platform for increasing the awareness and understanding of great white sharks.

Contributing to great white research, the Rodney Fox crew are constantly expanding an identification database using daily sightings. Returning sharks are recognised by identifying unique physical traits, such as markings on their caudal or pectoral fins. Whilst on the boat several sharks were already known, with new, younger individuals also documented. Amongst those returning were several super females (Jumbo, Demi and Alison Theresa) measuring between 4.5-5.5 meters, who dwarfed the smaller sharks. The crew also deploy satellite and acoustic tags to gain further information on their whereabouts when they are not around the Neptune Islands.
